Still here...

So we've had some "complaints" about the lack of updates. This has been a result of the holiday season coupled with me changing jobs, so I offer my sincerest apologies to those of you who've had to fill the void with much more exciting things such as the ongoing primaries, the dominance of the Boston sports scene and the ever changing weather. So what has happened since Kirsten's birthday and our Fat Duck weekend? Summary below, enjoy...

Dubai Rugby 7s weekend. I and several friends jetted off to Dubai to spend some time taking in the sights of Dubai and some international 7s rugby. While not one of my favorites cities it was an interesting adventure. Having never been in a Muslim city I began to appreciate my inherent expectations of western cities. That being said, Dubai is apparently one of the most lenient Muslim cities in the Arab world. The amount of building occurring is tremendous, it will be interesting to return in a few years simply for to see the difference. And oh by the way, the rugby was great. 2 full days of 8AM to 6PM rugby matches in the full hot desert sun while consuming a not insignificant volume of Heineken. It was kind of like a bachelor party except all but a few of the gentlemen were committed, while all of the gentlemen deserve to be committed.

For the christmas season Kirsten and I decided to hang around London and just relax, so sadly no trip to the British Virgin Islands this year. Although, after spending two days (christmas and boxing day) sitting around in our pajamas, drinking champagne, and eating olives, cheese and a lovely filet mignon. The other reason we decided to stay around London was that Kirsten's sister Arden was getting married in Boston on the 5th, so off we went on New Year's Day back to the states for a wedding and some retail therapy. The wedding was a lovely affair in a bipolar Boston (-10 one day, 50+ a couple days later. We truly put the exchange rate and post-holiday sales to good use as we doubled our wardrobes, seriously, 20GBP Kenneth Cole shoes? How could you not. After Boston Kirsten had to fly back for work. As I was between jobs I had the luxury of a few extra days to pop down to Philly to reacclimate myself to the adopted home town and as a special bonus spend a quiet day (pizza and TV) with the brothers Hennigan before flying back to London Town 2008.

As I sit typing I am fighting off the after effects of a 3-day work conference in Dublin. Having been at the job for only a few weeks it was nice to get out of the office and really get to know people on a personal level. While I didn't get to see many sites in Dublin this trip, save for the inside of many pubs and clubs, it'll definitely be a place Kirsten and I will go back to. Should you visit in the interim, a good restaurant is Brasserie Sixty6 and a good pint of Guinness can be found at the Stag's Head. If you're looking for the Thing Mote you'll be disappointed to now that it has closed and been replaced by a plastic chain pub...and so goes the march of time. Finally a word of advice when coming to Europe and presenting to an international audience, using the term "global" in reference to an organisation that has offices in "California, Colorado, New York, and Dublin" doesn't quite cut it. And that's one to grow on...

Kirsten's father is heading into town tomorrow for a few days so the next post shouldn't be too far behind; but if it is I know I'll get some "friendly" reminders.
